Two songs called Always, one year-end crown

In 1994 two different songs titled Always both topped the Israeli chart. Only one was the year's biggest.

In 1994 the Israeli chart had two number ones with the same title. Erasure's Always topped the chart in the spring; Bon Jovi's Always did it in the autumn. When the year-end chart was drawn up, the year-end top spot went to Bon Jovi's Always.

Why the weeks matter

Both reached #1, but Bon Jovi's song held the top spot for 4 weeks against 2 weeks for Erasure, and stayed on the chart 10 weeks against 9 weeks. Under the archive's scoring (41 minus position, per week) that adds up to 356 points for Bon Jovi and 303 for Erasure.

A data lesson

Two songs sharing a title are easy to mix up — which is why every song in the archive is identified by title, artist and date. The year-end 1994 chart also lists a second Always at #15: that one is Erasure's.
